What Makes Us Unique?

Holistic Education Approach

Unlike traditional models that focus predominantly on academics, Pear Tree emphasizes the whole-child approach, integrating social, emotional, physical, and ethical development alongside intellectual growth.

The Pear Tree Method

The Pear Tree Method is a proprietary, comprehensive educational methodology that incorporates theme-based and project-based learning, ensuring that all subjects are interconnected and relevant to real-world contexts.

Hot Lunch Program & Daily P.E.

Committed to the physical well-being of its students, Pear Tree provides 5 hour of physical education per week, far exceeding the norm in most schools, supported by a mandatory healthy hot lunch program.

Social & Emotional Integration

Social and emotional learning is seamlessly integrated into daily life at Pear Tree, not through isolated programs but as a core aspect of our nurturing, community-driven environment. This ensures the ongoing development of SEL, cultivating confident and empathetic individuals.

Small Class Sizes

With a maximum of 16 students per class, Pear Tree ensures personalized attention and tailored instruction, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for each student.

Masters-Qualified Educators

All classroom teachers at Pear Tree School hold Master's degrees in education or related fields, ensuring high-quality instruction informed by the latest educational research and practices.

Theme-Based Curriculum

Pear Tree's approach to the BC curriculum is structured around meaningful themes that integrate various subjects, making learning cohesive and engaging while promoting deep understanding.

Real-World Connections

With a curriculum enriched by regular field trips, guest speakers, and workshops, Pear Tree School ensures that learning is closely tied to the outside world. These experiences enhance the relevance of classroom learning, providing students with a broader perspective and deeper understanding.

Ethical Local & Global Citizenship

Pear Tree School emphasizes the importance of being active, positive contributors to both the local community and the global society. Through various initiatives, students are encouraged to engage in community service, environmental stewardship, and global citizenship.

Innovative Use of Technology

Integrating technology into the learning process in meaningful ways, Pear Tree School prepares students for the digital age. The use of educational technology enhances the learning experience and equips students with necessary 21st-century skills.

Community & Belonging

The school cultivates a strong sense of community and belonging, with students and staff fostering a supportive network that extends beyond the classroom.

At Pear Tree School, we hold high expectations for student behavior, mirroring the importance we place on their socio-emotional, academic, and physical development. Our community thrives on respect, responsibility, and kindness, with students encouraged daily to be their best selves—principles reinforced in our weekly assemblies.

Student Behavior Expectations

Our expectations for students underscore our commitment to a supportive and productive learning environment:

  • Consistent Attendance and Punctuality: Arrive ready and on time, with a positive mindset.
  • Respect and Fairness: Treat everyone within the school community with respect, embracing diversity and inclusiveness.
  • Personal Responsibility: Take responsibility for your own actions and behavior.
  • Kindness and Empathy: Engage in kind, empathetic communication; physical violence is unacceptable.
  • Peaceful Conflict Resolution: Resolve disputes calmly and with adult guidance if needed.
  • Technology Use: Use school-provided technology ethically and responsibly.
  • Care for Environment and Property: Respect all school facilities and report any damages.

Pear Tree School Values

Our school values guide our students not only in their current actions but also in preparing them for their futures:

  • Strive for excellence and learn from failure.
  • Respect oneself, others, and the surrounding community.
  • Listen actively and communicate thoughtfully.
  • Approach all situations with care.
  • Apply learned skills to real-world situations.
  • Use a growth mindset to set and achieve personal goals.
  • Offer constructive feedback and support to peers.

Rights and Responsibilities

Every student at Pear Tree School has the right to:

  • Feel safe and included in the school environment.
  • Learn in a welcoming, clean, and supportive setting.
  • Be themselves, fully and freely.

Students are responsible for:

  • Respecting personal and school property.
  • Being prepared and engaged in their learning.
  • Treating others with kindness and consideration.

Student Discipline

Our discipline policy is founded on positivity and communication:

  • Individual Case Management: Each disciplinary case is considered on an individual basis involving parents, teachers, and school management.
  • Positive Reinforcement: We focus on positive behaviors, encouraging students to model good behavior for their peers.

Anti-Bullying Policy

Pear Tree School is committed to maintaining a bullying-free environment:

  • Zero Tolerance for Bullying: Any form of bullying, including cyberbullying, physical violence, verbal or non-verbal abuse, is strictly prohibited.
  • Active Prevention and Intervention: Regular discussions on tolerance, diversity, and inclusivity are part of our curriculum. Teachers and staff are trained under British Columbia’s E.R.A.S.E Anti-Bullying program to recognize and react appropriately to bullying behaviors.
  • Reporting and Consequences: Students are encouraged to report bullying. Consequences are tailored to the specific situation, considering all involved students' backgrounds and the nature of the incident.

Consequences of Involvement in Bullying

  • Customized Interventions: Consequences are personalized, involving detailed discussions with parents and a plan for resolution that may include suspension or expulsion in severe cases.
  • Finality in Decisions: Decisions made by the principal and managing director are final, with an appeal process available for significant disciplinary actions.
